Roofs typically serve as rainwater collection surfaces. The water flows through downpipes into collection containers. The simplest form of collection basin is the rain barrel, which is now available in aesthetically pleasing shapes such as amphorae and columns. Water is scooped out of it with a watering can or drawn via a tap. On the other hand, modern rainwater harvesting systems offer far more possibilities, especially since they have a larger capacity.
They are equipped with a pump that directs the water for use in both the garden and the household. If the water is not used for drinking, food preparation, or personal hygiene, it can be replaced by service water, also known as utility water or industrial water. For use within the house, a separate pipe system from the drinking water supply is required.
Disinfecting rainwater – water from rainwater tanks is typically used for:
- Irrigation systems for riding arenas & riding halls
- Garden irrigation (softer than tap water and more compatible with plants)
- toilet flush
- washing machine
- for cleaning
In commercial and agricultural operations, the applications are far more diverse, such as for cleaning machinery or as cooling water. When it comes to animal watering, water treatment is essential to protect the animals from germs.
